MORE MANLY THAN OTHER MEN
A MEMOIR OF MY AMERICAN DREAM
My journey is a testament to the art of transformation — one knot, one fold, one life at a time.
More Manly Than Other Men, takes us on a journey from the bustling streets of Lagos to the heart of Houston, Texas. In this memoir, the Nigerian-born make-up artist and entrepreneur, Segungele shares his story of transformation from a jovial university student with a knack for hairdressing to a renowned master of the 'gele,' elevating a traditional art form into a high-demand fashion statement. Featured on CNN for his gravity-defying headgears, Segungele's tale is one of passion, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit, showing how a simple skill can blossom into a global brand. His story is not just about tying headwraps; it's a tapestry of cultural heritage, resilience, and the power of dreaming big.
Throughout the pages of More Manly Than Other Men, readers will be inspired by Segungele's determination to overcome the challenges that come with starting a business. From navigating the complexities of the beauty industry to building a loyal customer base, Segungele's story is a testament to the rewards that come from hard work and dedication. With humor and humility, he shares the lessons he has learned along the way, offering practical advice for anyone looking to pursue their passion. Ultimately, More Manly Than Other Men is a celebration of the courage it takes to chase your dreams and the joy that comes from doing what you love.
I wrote my memoir to dispel rumors, share my story, and celebrate how far I’ve come. I hope this book helps the reader pursue their dreams, not be restricted by their inherent limitations, be open to learning, and not listen to critics. However, there are still a few lessons I would like to point out that might help you, as well as the lessons I’ve learned.

Every individual's journey is characterized by a myriad of experiences - some of which offer valuable life lessons, while others present challenges that must be overcome. Through my personal journey, one thing became clear: societal perceptions, especially those rooted in biases, can shape an individual's identity, or at least how others perceive them. From reminding my wife about her wardrobe choices for church to discussing fashion and luxury, I've been on a roller-coaster ride of opinions and judgments. But beyond these simple facets of life, there are deeper lessons I've unearthed and learned from.
